The only catch in this movie is the parents killed the surrogate – almost in self-defense – and the movie ends with the police coming up the path. The story has been done time and time again and the ending is predictable from the opening scene, in which the psycho lady dies and the baby is returned to his rightful parents. The writers introduced a psycho boyfriend for Anna who seemed to be the catalyst in making her think she could have John and more money, but soon it was revealed that Anna is simply insane and obsessed. The actors were wonderful but the script was mediocre. Lo and behold, the ultimate bait and switch – Anna falls for John and uses the unborn child as leverage.ĭirector Jon Cassar ( Redemption) didn't seem to have much to work with. After three (3) miscarriages, the Taylor's decide that they will hire a surrogate and chose a young woman, Anna Walsh (Jaz Sinclair Paper Towns), who has eyes that they believe are innocent and is pure in her feelings to help another couple have a child. John (Morris Chestnut The Best Man Holiday) and Laura Taylor (Regina Hall Black-Ish) are affluent professionals who have tried for a long time to have a baby.

Screen Gems and Sony decided to put a little spin on a classic tale and update it for modern times - When the Bough Breaks is a story in which the surrogate becomes obsessed with the father to be. In fact, there have been movies made where the nanny becomes obsessed with the husband and it didn't end well for the nanny.

Due to strong content in the sex, language, violence and nudity categories, we are unable to award the movie our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal.Hollywood is full of real life stories of the husband running off with the nanny, or having an affair, and there have been several movies made similarly. Laura’s desire to be a mother is commendable, but the lengths she is willing to go to make that happen are extreme. The plot heats up and cruises to a bit of an intense, if not entirely surprising, ending. Laura’s only goal is to safely secure the birth of their child. She comes up with a suggestion for John that is not only immoral, but a bit shocking. He truly is in love with his wife, but when Anna’s mind snaps (and she is several months along in the pregnancy), Laura is afraid she will purposely try to lose the baby. She begins sending him naughty videos and dressing scantily when he is around. However, they discover that Anna is actually more concerning than Michael.Īnna falls for John, telling him she has a part of him inside of her, and she makes a move on him when Laura is away on business. The Taylors are concerned, because Michael seems to have a chip on his shoulder - if they only knew how big the chip really is. John and Laura invite Anna and her fiancé, a man named Michael (Theo Rossi) over for dinner. Anna seems perfect: so giving, kind, and gentle. Laura has suffered through three miscarriages, so she and John find a willing surrogate, a young woman named Anna (Jaz Sinclair). The plot focuses on a couple, John and Laura Taylor (Morris Chestnut and Regina Hall), who are childless and want to become parents. “When the Bough Breaks” is a suspenseful, tension-filled picture.
